Pieces on display in Artist Alley available to public through online auction

Here's your chance to own a great piece of local art for indoor or outdoor display! The Artist Alley Art Auction is currently online with Blue Skies Auction.

Up on the auction block are seven murals and three sculptures currently on display in the Artist Alley in downtown Kokomo. Items will be available for bid though Aug. 18.

Most of the pieces are large scale, suitable as a feature piece for both inside and outside. The pieces are part of the 2016-17 exhibit in Artist Alley, which is located on Main Street next to Artworks Gallery in downtown Kokomo. As each exhibit draws to a close, the pieces are auctioned off with a portion of the proceeds reinvested in the alley. In years past, the pieces were auctioned off during a live event. This year, organizers turned to Mark Bisch of Blue Skies Auction to open the sale to a larger audience.

“As this idea of artist alleys is catching on around the state, we’re expanding our Artist Alley to a larger audience through this online auction. We are attracting such quality pieces by amazing artists that we felt it only natural to open the auction up to more people,” said Susan Alexander, director of the Greater Kokomo Downtown Association. “The online auction will allow us to share this art with a wider community.”

The current exhibit will be taken down at the close of the online auction. The new exhibit — which Alexander says will be even bigger than the current showing — will open during First Friday on Sept. 1.
