Kokomo Chamber celebrates 2017 with awards


As part of its celebration of a successful 2017, the Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance awarded 11 honors on Thursday evening during the 103rd Annual Celebration of Commerce & Community event.

A dinner and awards program at Bel Air Events, the evening featured reflections of the Greater Kokomo Chamber of Commerce accomplishments in 2017 and progress updates from the Greater Kokomo Alliance.

“This annual celebration is a chance for us to show our deep appreciation for the faith our members have in us and the support they so generously give us throughout the year,” said Marla Miller, manager of memberships and programs for the Chamber of Commerce. “Being able to acknowledge so many amazing people and organizations in our community is always a highlight of our year.”

The Chamber presented several awards to the following members:

• Business Person of the Year: Brad Clark of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles

• Volunteer of the Year: Cassie Salinas with The Wyman Group

• Chamber Ambassador of the Year: Laura Hileman of Guardian Angel Foundation

• Small Business of the Year: Z92.5, Hoosier AM/FM Radio

• Medium Business of the Year: Martino’s Italian Villa

• Large Business of the Year: Sam’s Club

• Public Institution of the Year: Indiana University Kokomo

• Impact Award: Family Service Association of Howard County

Other units of the Alliance also presented awards to deserving recipients during the event. The Downtown Association’s Downtown Champion Award was given to Bryan Bitner, co-chair of the Kokomo Downtown Council, while the Greater Kokomo Visitors Bureau honored Kokomo Speedway with its FIRSTS Award for outstanding tourism efforts.

Dr. Susan Sciame-Giesecke was given a service award for her commitment to the Alliance during her two-year team as chairwoman of the board of directors for the Greater Kokomo Alliance.
