First Friday presents College Night


First Friday presents College Night in downtown Kokomo from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 2.

Visit with community organizations and businesses around downtown while showing your team spirit. There will be a prize patrol strolling the streets of downtown, looking for shows of spirit! So put on your best team gear and get downtown!

The student athletes of Indiana University Kokomo will be downtown to meet with fans. There will be athletes from each sport and they’ll have schedules and pictures to sign and hand out.

Other happenings include:

• Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer will be serving free freshly made popcorn and have games and prizes for children.

• Bind Cafe will have an open mic during First Friday. Bring your instruments, poetry and nerves, event organizers say. Also, all college students and faculty will receive a 10 percent discount on their taco order.

• Bona Visa will have a school-themed tailgate party with cookies and games at their gift store, 127 N. Buckeye.

• Rhum Academy of Music will host a First Friday After Hours Concert with the Jason Skaggs Band and WLRS. Located at 500 W. Superior St., the opening acts will start at 7 p.m., with WLRS taking the stage at 8 p.m. and WLRS at 9 p.m. There’s a $5 cover charge.

• Community First Bank of Indiana is partnering with Z92.5 and Family Service Association of Howard County to sell gently used little black dresses. Dresses are $20 and all proceeds will go to the domestic violence shelter. You can purchase dresses, tickets for the upcoming Little Black Dress Event, and limited edition Empower Bracelets while supplies last.

• Artworks Gallery will feature guest artist Wesley Nally from Blackford County. Marilyn Aleman, a potter, is the featured gallery artist. Various art teachers will be present to share about their classes.

• At the IU Kokomo Union Street Gallery, check out the Kokomo Career Art Center exhibition which showcases the work of area high school students. Also, you can grab a free IU Kokomo T-shirt while supplies last.

• Who’s Yer Coustic will perform at Wings Etc. starting at 5:30 p.m.

• It’s all about Purdue at PF Hendricks. Purdue fans can enter a drawing for a $25 gift card and there will be giveaways of Purdue logo gear.

• Redeemer Lutheran School teachers will provide information about enrolling students for the 2018-2019 school year, as well as information about school choice vouchers and scholarships. They will also have education games for children with prizes.

• Howard County CASA will host a representative from the 21st Century Scholars program who will offer information about getting signed up for the program and other financial aid.

• Cobalt Charm will be open for First Friday with several new styles available.

• South Creek Church of God will be at the Local Carpenters Union Hall on North Buckeye St. with activities for children.
