Chamber honors Family Service Association

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Family Service Association of Howard County has been named the Greater Kokomo Chamber of Commerce’s Member of the Month for May.

“We are very fortunate to have an organization that places a high value on our families and their well-being here in our community,” said Kimberly Pinkerton, manager of the Greater Kokomo Chamber of Commerce. “We are pleased to help bring awareness of the Family Service Association to the Howard County community.”

When the organization was incorporated in 1968, its mission and program was family counseling services for low-income families. Over the years, additional services were added and now the nonprofit organization helps 5,000 individuals each year, FSA Executive Director Tracy Martino said.

That help comes in the form of a variety of programs, from teaching new parents proper childcare skills to providing housing for homeless veterans, to providing shelter for abused women, men and children, to preventing child abuse in the first place.

“We help those that are most in need in the community,” Martino said, adding the FSA organization places great value in the chamber.

“The chamber has helped us remarkably by getting our name out there and supporting us,” she said. “Also, attending chamber events has helped us network and get to know other people in the community.”

Chamber Ambassadors honored the organization on April 18 by delivering Member of the Month signage to be displayed throughout the month of May. The traveling Little Ben trophy will also be on display at the organization.
