Alliance staff presents on statewide panel

A member of the Greater Kokomo Economic Development’s staff was selected to present at a statewide conference on Aug. 29 in Carmel.

Susan Alexander, manager of creative placemaking and downtown iniatives for the Alliance, discussed alley activations in downtown Kokomo as part of the conference presented by the Office of Community and Rural Affairs and Indiana Municipal Power Agency.

This year’s conference, titled Downtown 2.0, focused on downtown development and included a look at how several

Indiana cities and towns have empowered entrepreneurship in their communities. It also examined the impact that downtown housing and Main Street projects have on communities throughout the state.

Alexander was part of the conference’s Main Street panel and presented about the Alliance’s All Alleys Lead to Art initiative, which seeks to revitalize alleyways in the city center and create engaging public spaces.

“It’s good to see communities look to Kokomo as a model for modern quality-of-place initiatives. A driving force in many of those initiatives, Susan Alexander is the great spokesperson for the community’s placemaking efforts,” said Charlie Sparks, Alliance president and CEO. “We’re honored that Kokomo’s downtown is receiving statewide recognition.”
