Strawberry Festival Expands Footprint, Excitement in 2016

05/23/2016

Downtown Kokomo’s biggest event of the summer is back and bigger than ever! For the second year in a row, the annual Strawberry Festival will partner with First Friday to create 10 hours of berry-themed fun and family entertainment from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on Friday, June 3, 2016. This year, over 2.25 tons of strawberries, 8000 Amish shortcakes, and 600 gallons of ice cream will be used to craft Strawberry Festival’s signature strawberry shortcakes - the largest volume of shortcake supplies in the event’s history. In addition, the festival’s footprint will span the entire courthouse square, giving guests a full city block to explore and enjoy the event.

First Farmers Bank and Trust is back as the event’s sponsor for 2016 and will offer pre-sale dessert tickets for $5 each at all of its Kokomo locations beginning Monday, May 23. Dessert tickets will also be available at all Kokomo-Howard County Public Library locations. For patrons who can’t make it to the event to grab a treat, local food delivery service Food Precinct will be offering deliveries of strawberry shortcakes during Strawberry Festival.

Featured activities during the festival include:

· Live music on the Rhum Academy stage throughout the event, including performances by Visual Signals, Peaceful Kings, Pale Giants, and Texture Mess

· Mini motorcycle rides with certified trainers from the ABATE Tiny Tots Motorcycle Adventure

· Vendor booths featuring strawberry-themed food and drink items, handcrafted gifts, artisan crafts, and more

· Strawberry Festival Health Stage highlighting healthy living activities and information

The Greater Kokomo Downtown Association is accepting vendor applications for this year’s Strawberry Festival through May 26th at 4pm. Booth fees are $75 for a 10’x10’ space and can be reserved by contacting Susan Alexander with the Downtown Association at (765) 457-5301.
