Get ready for an
action-packed First Friday in May! In fact, it will be two First Fridays in
one! May marks Fast Friday and Cinco de Mayo, both of which will be celebrated
during the monthly event in downtown Kokomo.
From 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Friday, May 5, downtown Kokomo will be revved up for Fast Friday. Sponsor of
the May event, Wings Etc. will host the Fuzzy's Formula One Race Car and kids
are encouraged to jump in the driver's seat for a picture. There will also be
live entertainment in the restaurant's alley.
Other Fast Friday
• An IndyCar will be on
display on the west Courthouse lawn, weather permitting. The car will be hosted
by the Howard County Board of Commissioners and Secure Business Solutions.
The Kokomo Quarter
Midgets Club will have five cars on display.
• Stop by the Very
Early Childhood Education Center, 210 W. Walnut, and participate in a race day
craft. Also, be on the lookout for Husky, the Ivy Tech Community College
mascot, at the corner of Walnut and Buckeye streets.
• Court Appointed
Special Advocates of Howard County will have a racetrack set up for Matchbox
car races and a racing/CASA themed word search. You'll also have the chance to
sign up to be a CASA volunteer or participate in the volleyball tournament.
• Rex Ambrose will have
his dragster racing car on display at the United Steelworkers 2958. Also, step
inside to check out the many craft and vendors inside as well as participate in
a scavenger hunt.
• Blye’s Bridal Shoppe
will host Kaden Blount, a race car driver and seventh-grader at Western. He will
have on display the car he will race in the 2017 season in Outlaw Wing and A
Class for Micro Sprints. Kaden races locally at the U.S. 24 Speedway in
Logansport and at Miami County Speedway in Peru. Also, live models will be in
the windows featuring black and white formal gowns.
• LeaderOne Financial
will have a drawing for free tickets to Kokomo Speedway and a 3 Amigos gift
For Cinco de Mayo, 3
Amigos will be heating things up with its patio in full swing for a mini block
party in celebration of La Batalla de Puebla. Featuring The Mosaicos Folkloric
Ballet and DJ Nieto at 8:30 p.m., the patio party will include food and drink
specials throughout the evening.
Also, the Kokomo Family
YMCA will get the Cinco de Mayo fun started early with a dance-inspired fitness
class on the Courthouse Square. In partnership with Bind Cafe and Cook
McDoogal's, the YMCA Cinco de Mayo Street Party will be 6 to 9 p.m. on Main
Street and will feature a dance fiesta including Zumba, salsa, Cize, hip hop

Yes, there's even more happening at First Friday May, including:
• From 7 p.m. to
midnight at American Dream Hi-Fi, check out drag performances by Scarlett O
Rose and the current reigning Miss Hoosier Queen of Pride, Rachel Sparks. The
event is open to all ages, with alcoholic beverages available to those 21 and
older. There will be an after-party at The Coterie from midnight to 3 a.m.
• Register for the
Kokomo 48-Hour Film Contest at Bind Café. In conjunction with the Hoosierdance
International Film Festival, there will be a contest orientation at 6:30 p.m.
• First Baptist Church
will be serving free hotdogs.
• The IU Kokomo Union
Street Gallery has a new exhibition of student artwork inspired by Sol LeWitt.
• Redeemer Lutheran
School will be downtown to talk about the School Choice Program and the
scholarships they have available.
