It’s Indiana’s birthday,
and September’s First Friday event will be the place to celebrate this weekend.
In honor of Indiana’s
200 years, Carpenters Local 615 has constructed an 8-foot by 8-foot birthday
card. It will be on display during the 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, event on
the Courthouse Square. There’s enough room on the card for the signatures of
everyone who attends First Friday.
Also, Gingerbread House
will share birthday cake with its first 200 guests, while downtown venues will
share displays about what Indiana means to them. There will be historic games
and candy as well thanks to Leadership Kokomo.
And all that barely
scratches the surface of the fun planned for September’s First Friday event.
There will be free caricature drawings from 6 to 8 p.m., and City of Fists is
planning a mock roller derby scrimmage. You can also enjoy pulled pork
sandwiches from the fourth annual Hawgin’ the Block for Bridges Outreach
Bona Vista Childcare
Solutions will host a water and art activity table for children, while
characters dressed in period attire will stroll the Courthouse Square in honor
of the Howard County Historical Society’s 100th birthday.
With a live performance
by Rhum Academy of Music, a tug-of-war exhibition from KoKoMah Living History
Encampment and a puppy kissing booth from IUK Phi Sigma Sigma, you may have to
hurry to see it all during this month’s First Friday event.
