New Years Eve Ball Drop on Wheels with a Twist!
The community is invited to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Downtown Kokomo and enjoy the Kokomo High School TechnoKat’s Lighted Ball Drop, a rockin’ music , light and stage show, an adult Tricycle Competition, a Doughnut Throw-down and Fireworks off the Courthouse roof.
With their newest branch location opening January right on the square, First Farmers Bank and Trust executives felt it was fitting that they present this New Year’s Eve spectacular. “We are pleased to invite everyone to the heart of the city for this well-deserved celebration” said Tade Powell, First Farmers Bank and Trust Vice President. “We’re excited to host the TechnoKats in our newest location and we’re thrilled to wish the Kokomo community a healthy, happy and prosperous new year!” he continued.
The Kokomo High School TechnoKats Robotics Teams’ Lighted Ball Drop will be solar-powered again this year by Green Alternatives Inc. “The team is integrating new controllers to the ball which will allow for more color depth and faster pattern changes” says, Mike Carmain, Lead Electrical Mentor.
The Music, Light and Stage show is new this year. Emcee, Jeff Hodges of Elsewhen Technologies and his music associates will put on a show that will pump up the excitement! Favorite music from many generations and genres will be on tap all evening. Guests should expect to sing, dance & jam into the new year!
The evening will open at 10:30pm with “Trike Wars”, an adult tricycle team competition on Main Street. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams receive cash awards of $500, $250 and $100 respectively. The competition is open to the first 30 teams of four to preregister at the Downtown Association (325 N Main St). There is a $20 registration fee per team and all members must sign liability waivers and must be 16 years of age or older.
At 11:30pm, up to 30 contestants will compete in a “Doughnut ThrowDown” right in front of the stage. The delicious doughnuts are sponsored by The Gingerbread House. Each contestant will have 14 glazed doughnuts to devour as fast as they can to win a $100 top cash prize. The 2nd and 3rd place winners receive $75 and $50 respectively. Contestants must preregister at the Downtown Association offices(325 N Main St), pay a $5 fee, sign a liability waiver and be 16 years of age or older.
