Transformation to 2012-New Year’s Eve Downtown Kokomo!Kokomo, IN  - Community members are invited to celebrate Kokomo’s transformation from the “fastest dying city” to “Community of the Year” New Year’s Eve in downtown Kokomo. “Transformation as the theme of this celebration is very appropriate.  In all areas of our community we are collaborating and coming together to get the job done for our city.  And it’s working.  Kokomo deserves this celebration.” says Jeb Conrad, CEO of the Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance.

To the already spectacular line up of the Kokomo High School TechnoKats Robotics Teams’ Lighted Ball Drop, the music of Mike Milligan and Steam Shovel, and the court house fireworks, new and exciting activities are planned.  “This community celebration exemplifies the Alliance’s commitment to quality of place initiatives” says Jeb Conrad, CEO Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance. Conrad adds, " A big thank you goes out to our Downtown Council and all the volunteers for leading this exciting event."

The evening will open with the Court House’s transformation into a theater screen on which Kokomo Area Career Center’s Academy of Art, Media and Communication students will project various movie shorts.  In addition, a live feed of the street scene is planned to be interspersed in the show.  A Techno-Dance Booth located on the North side of the square will have all guests dancing in the street trying to keep up with PlayStation’s “Everybody Dance” game on a 12’screen.

In addition, large bubble Bubble-Wrap will be laid down Main Street for all to stomp to their hearts content. Downtown businesses are hosting a “Recycle and Repurpose Art” hat contest.  Prizes will be given in 5 categories.  Participants should transform everyday objects into Party Art Hats to be judged on stage.  Also, there is a rumor floating around that a Community Dance Flash Mob is due to happen on the scene sometime after 11pm.  Community Members can check out “Kokomo Community Flash Mob New Years Eve” on the Greater Kokomo Facebook page for video dance steps and practices.

Also new this year, Downtown eateries Upper Crust Sandwich Shoppe and the Kokomo Elks Lodge will offer a breakfast to guests just after midnight.  Guests are invited to keep the fun time rolling into 2012 for breakfast downtown with friends and family.

The Downtown Association has been executing this event since the late 1990’s.
